What To Bring On My Cruise? WARNING: This Contains Humor!

This is our 7th cruise and we have become savvier about what we pack.  There have been threads on Cruise Critic about what is absolutely necessary to bring on your cruise.  Yep, I have my flame retardant on so go ahead and blast away……..because I don’t recall asking for your opinion when I wrote this.

We travel light with one carry on each even for a month away.  I would love to see a suitcase in the corridor with a large sign painted on it that says… “Just in Case”

Duck Tape…..just in case your luggage breaks or you need to fix the hem of your beaded gown.

Clothes Hangers……you could just ask for more.

Organizer for the back of the door……..there are more drawers, cupboards and hidey holes than the den of a Meerkat.

Alarm Clock, Cases of water, Duffle bag of over the counter medicine….the list goes on and on.   I agree with taking medicines if you need them.

I have a very severe allergy and plan accordingly.  It has taken me years to rid myself of panty hose, high heels, spanks (they used to be called Girdles and the dictionary says, “Anything that encircles, confines or limits”  I am not having any of it!  No more long beaded gowns that smell of formaldehyde when they come back from the cleaners.   Hello, My name is Lin and I am allergic to Formal Night!”

I still struggle once in a while with Bling.  Walking past the jewelry cases with blinding lights positioned just so, calling out to me, “Come see the sparkly….you know you want the sparkly…..oh just try on the sparkly for size!    I promise not to go near………ugh.  I promise to stay away from………ugh!  My husband saves me by gently reminding me of our priorities, damn it!  And they don’t happen to include anything sparkly!

But they are wonderful as we will be retiring in one year to Thailand!  ….Sparkly? Thailand?, Sparkly, Thailand?........YEP….THAILAND!

I digress……..

Packing and Security just might have something in common.

The no brainers….don’t pack candles, incense, or pot.  Do pack your sense of humor, flexibility and if you care what other people think you might want to pack your filter.

For the past year at work I have had to walk on egg shells and watch what I say for fear it might be taken out of context or taken the wrong way.  I recently began calling my place of work, Dysfunction Junction!

Preparing for packing I looked in the drawer and noticed I will be conveniently out of filters just about the time I board the ship. I won’t know anyone, will never see them again and I would be highly amused to see a post on Cruise Critic about…”The outspoken women that had the nerve to tell me to F--- Off when I came back from my cabin after taking a nap and she was in my deck chair!”

This probably doesn't happen very often, but if the Nepalese Security deems it necessary for the safety and comfort of the passengers and crew they can and will confine you to your cabin.  Or they can de-bark you.  No they don’t cut out your tongue and our captain’s name isn't Blackbeard.

On the pool deck we have seen wild eyed chair hogs literally pounce on the loungers we just vacated and have heard passengers scream at the crew demanding “Chocolate” ice cream….NOT, Chocolate Fudge ice cream!

Behavior runs the gamut when you have over 2,000 people from different walks of life, and ages from teens to older than lava.   I am somewhere in the middle.

Ohhh.. I can just imagine how it will feel to be free and let the thoughts become words and watch them take flight when I have no filter!   “Look Honey, that nice man from Nepal is coming over to talk to us!”  “Excuse me Madam, but I am going to have to de-bark you for not remembering to pack your duct tape.”

Picked Up Our Boarding Passes

Our travel agent emailed us a couple days ago and said she could print out our boarding passes for us if we wanted her to. We normally do that ourselves but it gave us an opportunity to stop by and visit with her for a while.

Cruise is getting closer all the time. Thank Buddha!
